Loyola University Maryland student, Ana Ilisinovic, class of 2018, was awarded a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to study abroad in Alcala de Henares, Spain for the fall 2016 semester. The $2,000 scholarship will help cover her expenses while abroad.

Originally from Cleveland, Ilisinovic, is a Spanish major with a minor in Secondary Education. This will be her first time abroad.

"I'm most excited about having the opportunity to challenge myself mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically while abroad," Ilisinovic said. "I am eager to improve my Spanish language skills and also learn about different cultures so that I can become a more open-minded and well-rounded individual."

While abroad, Ilisinovic plans to meet her grandparents, who live in Croatia, for the first time. After Loyola, Ilisinovic hopes to teach English in Spain. Her goal is to teach Spanish at the university level.
